Business Booms at Vista Donuts

Bobby Sutton, Guest Reporter

The neon sign crackles as it reads “Vista Donuts” early in the morning before the sun has even had chance to shine its rays on the world. The smell of freshly baked donuts and kolaches linger all along Vista Ridge Blvd. Before school, students flood into the small shop as Owner Stevie Seang is well into her seven-hour shift.

“We opened on Oct. 30, so about three weeks ago. Initially when we opened I expected business but I didn’t expect as many purchases as we’re now getting,” Seang said. “We have so much business in the morning. I’ll look out of the windows of the shop, and the parking lot will be full and all those cars are our customers, not to mention most of our customers are students who stop by in the morning.”

Carbohydrates are what gets students throughout the day. Now being able to purchase coffee and indulge in treats right before a long day at school, student routinely stop by the shop for everything from jelly-filled donuts to apple fritters, cinnamon rolls or kolaches.

“We have a large array of types of donuts to choose from,” Seang said. “ Our most popular items would either be the donut holes or regular glazed donuts. I’d say it’s a tie between the two.”

On any given morning, students are carrying a Vista Donuts bag as it has become a staple morning routine for students.

“Our donut shop I would say is in a prime location,” Seang said. “I thought this spot was perfect because no one else is on this strip mall and because donuts are a good morning food especially for kids who like sugar.  I knew that we’d get some business, but there was no way I could have predicted that within the second week of opening we would have lines out the door.”

How ever the donut shop doesn’t only serve people who come into the shop. In fact within their first few weeks of opening, Vista Donuts was asked to donate 15 dozen donuts to Vista Ridge Early College Start, a program meant to inspire kids to apply to college early.

“It was a big order but I figured if I help I’ll receive some help too,” Seang said. “It felt so good donating. I was making a mark and a good impression on the school, or at least I hope.”

Immediately being accepted into the Cedar Park community and right off the bat being a hit with students, the owner of Vista Donuts couldn’t help but reflect on her success.

“It’s great being in such close proximity to the school and other fantastic locations,” Seang said. “I know I’ve said it before, but I can’t stress it enough, how grateful I am to be in such an accepting community.”
