Yearbook Wins National Award

Yearbook Wins National Award

The 2015 yearbook, The Lonestar, was named a Crown Award finalist scholastic-recipients from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Only 65 yearbook publications, from national and international entries, were chosen as Finalists for the CSPA Crown Awards to be presented in March 2016 at ceremonies in New York City.

During Crown consideration, publications are rigorously judged by a panel on their excellence in design, photography, concept, coverage and writing. A total of 1,190 publications were eligible for judging, and Crown Finalists are not nominees but actual winners. Some will be announced as Gold Crowns; the rest are Silver Crowns.

The Lonestar was the only Leander ISD school and one of three central Texas high schools to earn this distinguished honor. This is the third for Crown for Vista Ridge High School. Last year, The Lonestar staff attended the CSPA Spring Convention in New York City and brought home a Gold Crown.

“Winning a crown is a huge honor,” senior co-editor Halee Jorgensen said. “To know that the judges acknowledged and appreciated all our work, awarding us a crown the second year in a row, helps us maintain our determination to continue making books that preserve memories and uphold scholastic journalism.”
