The Ruby Slipper Proposition

Sydney, Mitchell

Prom is right around the corner and with all the glamour and glitz comes a hefty price tag. Girls now a days are finding it harder and harder to purchase the dress of their dreams due to climbing prices, and are having to settle on a night when they should be living the high life. But in Georgetown, TX, home of the Eastview High School Patriots a new type of donation service has spawned. Prom supplies, including everything from dresses to shoes to jewelry and even hair and makeup services are being provided to girls who would not be able to financially handle prom otherwise. “The Ruby Slipper” is cutting the price of prom down to just the ticket.

Inspired by this wonderful organization, I propose that we begin such a service on campus. There are countless girls who could benefit from a program such as this, not only those are receiving the dresses and glamour services but also those who are giving them. This program would bring into focus a community of girls and women banning together to showcase and appreciate each other’s beauty, value and company.

And with prom approaching quickly, it is prime time to let our generous spirits emerge and ban together to provide for deserving girls who may otherwise not get to experience the pinnacle event of high school.
