Blue Cat Cafe: a cat lover’s paradise

Grace Davis, Guest Reporter

The atmosphere in Austin’s first cat cafe from the moment the door opens is warm and welcoming. The “Blue Cat Cafe” features a vegan menu of sandwiches, hot dogs renamed “Cat-Dogs”, and Tex Mex along with tea and coffee. The vegan menu isn’t for everyone but it fits right in with Austin’s selection of vegan and vegetarian restaurants. The cafe’s signature “Blue Ribbon BrisCat” Samich is made of smoky vegan seitan brisket. After signing a waver and paying a small entrance fee to help provide for the cats, the door to the cafe opens into a happy and fun environment. The rescued cats roam and lounge around the cafe in a stress free space, supporting animal welfare and pet adoption. The cafe has plenty of seating for people and cats alike with places for the cats to climb and explore on the overhead catwalk. In the casual and colorful cafe, the staff are kind and polite and enjoy working with the cats, providing a homey environment for the people. All of the cats are up for adoption, their adoption status on a color coded collar with their name written on the collars as well. An exception is Balthazar, the resident cat who is not up for adoption, but permanently lives in the cafe. The cafe carries necessary supplies that are needed to take home a furry friend including carriers, collars, and toys. The “Blue Cat Cafe” is dedicated finding homes for the cities stray, homeless felines and to provide an unique experience for cat lovers, and change the world one whisker at a time. It’s definitely a cat lover’s paradise.
