District Leader

Football Stats

Rhett Harrison

Looking ahead to Friday’s match up against state-ranked Lake Travis, senior Chris Showels prepares for yet another game full of run play to tack on to his rushing yardage.

After the Cedar Park match up, Showels led the district with 668 rushing yards, averaging 6.7 yards a carry and just over 110 yards per game. Along with being the number one man in the running game, Showels also leads the varsity team in receiving yards with 342 yards on 24 receptions.

Along with a strong running game, the team also relies on junior quarterback Blake Estes for the pass game. Sitting at 755 yards, Estes averages almost 190 yards per game and has completed more than 60 percent of his passes this season.

Senior Jaylen Harris has had 240 yards of receiving and averages an impressive 16 yards per catch. Harris also has five touchdowns on the season, only three behind touchdown leader, Showels.

The team cannot only rely on a running back to make plays and dodge the entire defense to gain the yards; it is the offensive line that creates run lanes. Without the line up front, Showels would not be able to lead the district in rushing yards.

“We are the reason for our success at the run game. Without us dominating the defenses like we have we would be unable to run,” junior left tackle Damon Cowart said. “We put defensive linemen in the dirt and make them like it; that’s the reason we can run the ball the way we do.”
