Senior Athletes Commit to Colleges

Sports are a very important thing for a lot of teenagers and especially Vista Ridge High School where athletes are at every corner you turn. They’re also really fun and a good way to blow off some steam.

What school did you commit to? For what sport?

“I committed to Stephen F. Austin for Baseball,” said Senior Brett Burrington.

Why did you decide to play for that school?

“It’s a great opportunity and they have good sports programs,” said Burrington.

What are your goals for playing at the next level?

“I’m gonna play baseball while getting a good education,” said Burrington.

Why do you love to play baseball?

“I’ve always been playing since I was little and it’s always been there for me. I was taught by my Mom and Dad.”

What school did you commit to? For what sport?

“Naval Academy for Football,” said Senior Micah Thomas.

Why did you decide to play for that school?

“I committed to Naval Academy mainly for football, the education, and opportunity it presents after college is phenomenal,” said Thomas.

What are your goals for playing at the next level?

“To start as soon as I can, help the team, and try my best,” said Thomas.

Why do you love to play football?

“It’s a way to get my education, have fun, and just release,” said Thomas.

What school did you commit to? For what sport?

“Houston Baptist University for Soccer as a goalie,” said Senior Katie Turner.

Why did you decide to play for that school?

“I chose HBU because it is a smaller school with good coaches and teachers and a full ride scholarship doesn’t hurt,” said Turner.

What are your goals for playing at the next level?

“My goals are hopefully I get to start as a Freshman and do good on the team,” said Turner.

Why do you love to play soccer?

“I am very competitive and I have been playing soccer since I was six. I’ve been on Varsity since Freshman year though,” said Turner.

Seniors Stedman Mayberry is planning to go to Texas state University for football, and Nick Stevenson is going to Dakota Wesleyan University for football.
