The pavement was hot with intensity and excitement. Sophomore Taylor Kopp won her first tennis match on Sept. 8 against Leander. For Kopp, it was a great victory and a great way to start the season for the JV tennis team.

“We were playing Leander, and I beat her 8-1,” Kopp said. “ I was happy and I was excited. I was very surprised I could beat her because it was my first game.”

Kopp is number 19 on the girls junior varsity team. Kopp has only been playing for three months, but already loves the sport. Kopp has played volleyball, which actually influenced her to try out tennis.

“It looked fun,” Kopp said. “The people are nice, and it looked similar to volleyball.”

Sophomore Tyler Martin is number 11 on the boys junior varsity team. He has been playing tennis for two years now and loves to play the sport.

“My favorite thing is hitting serves because it is the start of every point,” Martin said. “Hitting a serve starts the play, and I like the feeling of starting.”

Kopp said she loves the team and has so much fun practicing with her friends. Win or lose, they are always work together.

“My favorite thing is the teamwork when we play doubles,” Kopp said.

Martin and Kopp said practicing hard is worth it in the end when they win a match. People usually don’t remember when they lose but when they win, it’s a memory never to forget.

“The most memorable moments for me are when I win,” Martin said. “When I win against a team I feel very accomplished, and it’s always a good time.”
