Dana Kim, Reporter

These are trending/top hits on Spotify that should be heard all around! Although the top 50 are listed, I’ll be highlighting 10 of the very best.

drivers license by Olivia Rodrigo

  • This song is on my list because it has been trending ever since its release on January 8. Drivers’ license broke many records, surpassing many known celebrities such as Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande on the charts. Some of its accomplishments are being numbered one on Billboard’s top 100, global 200, most streamed song in a week on Spotify, and most requested in a day on the Amazon device, Alexa. Many teens across social media share and relate to this song as it is an emotional song about heartbreak.

Good Days by SZA

  • Good Days was released on December 25, 2020. This song is a follow-up song to one of her other big hits, Hit Different. This song talks about looking forward to the good days coming and moving on from the negatives. This song is on my list because I think the intro tone is really nice, as well as the intention and “vibe” of the song.

Anyone by Justin Bieber

  • Anyone was a song released on January 1, 2021. This song was a tribute to his wife, Hailey Beiber. I thought it’d be nice on this list as it is a sweet song about love which is always a good feeling.

Willow by Taylor Swift

  • This was a song released on December 11, 2020. As said in a Youtube Q&A, Willow is about the intrigue and desire of wanting someone. I chose this song from the top 50 to put on this list because the lyrics sound like a story is being told rather than just an average song.

Remember That Night? By Sara Keys

  • This song was released on November 6, 2020. It originated by an artist on TikTok. She talks about her own experience and expresses it in a song. I feel as though a lot of artists display their emotions through their songs and music. I chose this one to be on the list because it shows her journey in healing and the song portrays a message of the reality of heartbreak.

What You Know Bout Love by Pop Smoke

  • Released on July 3, 2020, this song grew progressively more popular on an app used by many teens, Tik Tok. I added this song to this list to add different genres into the mix.

Save Your Tears by The Weeknd

  • I added this song to the list because it gives for a “night time drive” vibe. I try to add songs for all different occasions and I think this is a great option to holler out in the car. It is speculated that the song is about his two past lovers and how they had an impact on him.

Therefore I am by Billie Eilish

  • This song by Eilish gives off a very powerful, independent feel. The backstory of this song is her responding to her haters body-shaming her. I added this song because I think it portrays an important message that it doesn’t matter what anyone says about you, you don’t know them, and they shouldn’t have that power to affect you.

Monster by Shawn Mendes and Justin Beiber

  • This song reflects on the price of fame. This is an important song on this list as it gives deeper insight that says everything is not what it seems. The song also expresses the way that the two artists feel as though they have to have everything in line and if they “mess up,” in any way they’ll be portrayed as some “monster.”

Put Your Records On by Ritt Momney

  • This song is a peaceful song about reassurance and embracing yourself. It says not to worry too much, and getting back on your feet is not far at all. I added this song because reassurance is what we need nowadays, and I think it did a great job of spreading that message.
