When someone hears the title Lego Movie, they would most likely think of some sort of hokey CG animated mess of a film with more product placements than brain cells, much in the same realm as the recent Transformers Movies, however to the surprise and pleasure of anyone who saw this movie, it was quite the opposite.

This movie is about Emmett Brickowski (Chris Pratt), and ordinary man who lives his life by the book–literally. Everyone in his town has to abide by a set of instructions which tells them how to do everything, from showering to driving. However his entire world is turned upside down when he is suddenly dragged into an adventure to save the world from the evil Lord Business (Will Ferrell).

This movie had the kind of concept where, if given the wrong team, would have been an absolute disaster. Luckily though it was written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who had earlier written and directed such films as Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and the short lived television series Clone High. And like their previous works, this movie is teaming with clever jokes, great characters, and fantastic animation. Most noticeably, almost the entire film was animated in stop motion using Lego mini-figures, albeit with some CG that’s so well integrated that even when I was looking for it I couldn’t find it. It’s surprising, as all the other
animated Lego productions were animated in CG, however it’s a very welcome change, and is
most definitely the only true way to make a Lego movie.

I’m happy to say that I have very few problems with this movie, and the ones I do have are kind of nit-picky. It has the whole “Believe in Yourself” message, which is way overdone, and yet even that I have trouble ragging on because it’s told in such an original fashion. I seriously don’t have any major problems with it, and it’s been way too long since I’ve said anything like that about a movie.

To conclude, the Lego movie is a fun, hilarious, and totally unforgettable movie. I had no idea where this movie was going, allowing me to truly enjoy the ride. I highly recommend you grab your friends and go see this movie the moment you’re able.
