Business Gets Real: DECA Advances to State

DECA students competed at their district competition Saturday, Jan. 19 at Leander High School. Twenty nine out of the 30 competitors advanced to the state contest which will be in Corpus Christi on Feb. 28.

DECA is an active organization that focuses on business and marketing. High School students who competed prepared presentation boards with a written essay and memorized speech.

“The most important thing is to stay on top of things and not procrastinate,” sophomore Chloe Miemban said. “Someone who is determined to put effort and time should join this wonderful organization that encourages students to be active and engaged.”

Competitors focused on their presentation because other student presented their project at the same time in the same room.

‘It’s really distracting when you hear other people’s presentation during your presentation so it’s important to focus and not become distracted,” sophomore Vishakha Sangani said.

Competitors are all thriving to make it on to the next round, in state, where they will be able to go to Corpus Christi.

“It’s really fun and exciting once you make it to state. It will definitely be an experience worth working for,” sophomore officer, John Cho said.
