Adele is Back, Sadder than Ever

Lucy Stevens, Guest Reporter

Upon returning from her hiatus, Adele has made her way back on the music scene with her new album “25.”

Her new release features a collection of heart-wrenching yet soul-filled tunes that would make any grown man cry. The entire record tells tales of cruel heartbreak and “I don’t need you” anthems that go along with her debut and sophomore albums, “19” and “21.” While listening to these tracks, I would quickly forget the songs, but find myself searching for them in my music library at 2 a.m. since I couldn’t get them out of my head. Despite their sad lyrics and piano tones, they still manage to be catchy and stick with you all day.

All of the tracks on “25” are charmingly beautiful and heartfelt, but a few songs stick out of the bunch. Songs like “Love in The Dark” and “All I Ask” stand from this album for being such beautiful songs, with heavy piano tracks and slow deep drum beats that all go to tell solemn stories of Adele’s past. Her large range and control of her voice completes these tracks and make for a listening experience you’ll never forget. Other tracks like the now viral “Hello” have made a lasting impression on her audience.

While this record does contain some beautiful tunes, it’s difficult not to let them blend into each other. All of the songs are very good, but there isn’t much variety. Most tracks on this album all carry slow beats and piano backings, and very few are upbeat which makes it difficult to listen to the album throughout without getting depressed and thinking about exes you don’t even have. However, the few upbeat tracks there are on the album, such as “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” are very catchy and easy to groove to.

All in all, whether you’re a 45-year-old man or a 13-year-old girl, Adele’s “25” is definitely worth a listen. The record is available on iTunes for $10.99 or at Target which includes three bonus tracks for $12.99. For an overall rating of this album, it receives ⅘ stars.
