Volleyball Makes Post-Season Run to Regional Semi-Finals

For the first time in seven years the varsity volleyball team advanced to the third  round of the playoffs. The team’s run came down to a devastating halt at the fifth match of the Regional Semi-Final Tournament at Concordia University on Nov. 12.

“The loss was bittersweet,” junior libero Alyssa Cecil said. “It was the last game of the season; we put up a great fight, and played hard, so it really wasn’t that bad. We were a really strong team.”

“I knew we could have won that last match,” junior outside hitter Blair Nevit said. “I guess we were running out of that adrenaline you get at the beginning of the game, so it really sucked to lose.”

The team put up a good fight throughout the whole season with a winning district record.

“We started of the season really well,” Nevit said. “Last year, I felt like we weren’t really a team. I knew from the beginning we would make it to playoffs this year, for sure. We made our coach, parents, friends and fans proud. I believe that we as a team enjoyed this amazing experience.”

The team may have not won state, but being able to share the experience with the team was something they enjoyed.

“I was very excited when we found out we made it to playoffs,” Cecil said. “I feel like I was able to bring the team together and really add that intensity on the court. I was very proud of my team because we haven’t gone this far into playoffs in seven years so it really means something to me and the team. It is something I will never forget.”
