The Last Good Game I Heard of…

With the announcement of Assassins Creed Black Flag, Halo 5, Battlefield 4, “Half Life 3 (it must be cake because it’s a lie),” and even some consoles were announced recently. But through all this controversy, a special game slipped the attention of many people’s eyes, but inevitably caught mine. Murdered: Soul Suspect isn’t a typical FPS, strategy or RPG. Consider a detective game following Sherlock Holmes; now imagine your main case is your own murder! How is this possible, you ask? Let me answer your lovely question by setting a dark scene.

It’s a stormy night, a light fog engulfs the city while it drizzles along the stone road. You hear a few light thuds and a grunt. Glass shatters. And a few seconds later, seven gunshots. You open you eyes to see a man laying in the middle of the street, unmoving. A second man walks up to the first man and pulls out the man’s holstered pistol. You scream, stop and teleport toward the two men. You pause and become distracted only for a second. When you regain your attention you begin to run toward the two men. A gunshot stops you. But the man on the ground was shot? Six more shots ring out and with every bullet that hits the man in the road a ghostly orange hole appears on you. You begin to fade becoming translucent, and you notice the, now deceased, man on the ground…is you!

As a ghost, your character, Ronan O’Connor cannot interact with the physical world but he can interact with the spiritual world. He can’t pick up and inspect evidence, like per say the murder weapon but Ronan can possess a scared witness and get the full story from her clouded mind. Can’t question a witness? No problem just walk your invisible self over and eavesdrop on a interrogation. Can’t see some evidence on scene. Try walking through a wall next to the scene and look around there. Getting the perspective now?

Soul Suspect caught my attention because it’s something new. It shows the homeland perspective of terror not a super soldier spamming grenade and campaign in power armor. Soul Suspect is introducing a new genre of gaming. The gameplay is a smooth and flowing investigation that brings beautiful graphics with it. With a new style, smooth and beautiful gameplay with an intriguing and in depth story, there’s not much else to ask for.
