Mary Poppins Returns for 7 Award Nominations

If you’re looking for a continuation of ‘Mary Poppins’ then you should go watch the latest film featuring Mary Poppins and the Banks family in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’.

In ‘Mary Poppins Returns’, Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer) and her widower little brother Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) alongside his three children Anabel (Pixie Davies), John (Nathanael Saleh), and Georgie (Joel Dawson) are faced with a major problem when William Wilkins (Colin Firth) from Fidelity Fiduciary Bank tries to repossess their house on Cherry Tree Lane, leaving the Banks family five days to come up with the money to pay back the loan. Through all of this Mary Poppins floats on in her umbrella and we are introduced to lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda).

I loved that there were so many call backs to ‘Mary Poppins’ which came out in 1964. Examples of this would be nearly every new song which were composed by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman which replaces old songs such as “Can You Imagine That” replacing “A Spoonful of Sugar”, “Nowhere to go but Up” replacing “Let’s Go Fly a Kite”, and “Trip A Little Light Fantastick” replacing “Step in Time”. I also liked that some of Jane and Michael’s mementoes were sitting in the attic that were revisited.

I don’t really dislike anything about it, I just prefer the original Mary Poppins (played as Julie Andrews) along with the other original cast members and songs.

I would recommend seeing ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ in your local theater for a great sequel to ‘Mary Poppins’.
