After defeating Austin Travis 41-6, the football team moves on to play Alamo Heights in Buda this Friday.
Travis came into the game with a 7-3 record. The Rangers started strong, as senior Chris Showels scored on the first play from scrimmage, an 80-yard touchdown run. The rushing game continued to be the main source of attack, with 11 players combining for a total of 316 rush yards.
Junior Blake Estes threw only six passes for 103 yards, 89 of which came on a touchdown pass to senior Jaylen Harris. Showels also threw a 25-yard touchdown pass on a halfback pass play. The defense held Travis to 261 total yards, and forced and recovered two fumbles. They only allowed six points on a late touchdown pass.
Alamo Heights comes into this week’s game with a 9-2 record. Last week, they defeated Medina Valley 23-15.
“[Alamo Heights] is pretty good – probably right below Cedar Park and Lake Travis,” Estes said. “My expectations are that we’re going to get done what we need to get done.”
The game is set to kick off at 7:30 at Bob Shelton Stadium in Buda.
