This Tuesday the varsity men’s basketball team will compete in their first playoff game against LBJ High school.
The Rangers are coming off a record-breaking season, so the pressures going into the post season are record breaking as well. Last year’s squad was able to advance to the second round in playoffs and according to senior post Brian Savens, it will be difficult to measure up to last season’s standards.
“This year the teams are going to have better athletes and just better teams over all then last year. With the pressures of matching up to last year’s history plus the tough competition should make for a rough post season,” Savens said.
The team however is doing what they can to prepare for the very difficult post season that awaits them. The game plan hasn’t been discussed between the team yet because of the recent release of the first round playoff schedule.
“Our coach has been practicing us way harder than usual to get us prepared for playoffs,” senior guard Landon Shryack said.
But some of the team feels that getting in the right mind set is more important than just practicing hard or just having a game plan going into the post season.
“Really the best thing for us is just to do the same thing we have been doing all season. The important thing is for us to get our attitude in the right place. We need to be more aggressive and not so passive or we will lose for sure,” Savens said.
