The girl’s basketball season came to an end at the 4A Class Regional Tournament in a 14-point loss to LBJ High School on Feb. 26.
However, the team flew through playoffs with ease beating top teams such as McCallum (63-16), Medina Valley (65-41), Marble Falls (36-23) and Victoria East (46-40). They were then met by the tough Austin LBJ team who had also knocked out the boy’s team in the first round. The girls played a tough game but, fell short of the state playoffs by one game 43-29.
“Defense and free throws really killed us that game. We could have done better,” senior captain Uzochi Duru said.
This past season was by most standards exceptional, with a 28-win season and with an 11-1 district record. The Lady Rangers made winning look easy this season with big wins against Lake Travis (56-30), Marble Falls (60-27) and Rouse (44-18).
“It was a good experience, and we had a lot of fun and did consistently well,” Duru said. “This is the best team I have played with so far.”
