The varsity football team has an 5-0 record at the start of district with a 13-6 win over Vandegrift last Friday.
“It felt good to get that big win in our first district game,” junior runningback Stedman Mayberry said.
With their smashing 55-0 win over the McCallum Knights the previous week, the team has already surpassed last year’s total wins shutting out Bastrop and LBJ along with McCallum.
“The team is off to a good start,” Head Coach Rodney Vincent said. “It’s great to be
undefeated. It also helps with the team’s confidence.”
The team already has a total of 1,630 rushing yards at the start of district — Mayberry with 825 of those yards.
Vincent said offense has to control the game and really move the ball.
“As captain my goal is to keep the team together,” senior captain Adrian Duncan said. “This year’s team is a lot closer and has big potential. We are doing all of the little things right.”
Duncan said the most memorable play of the season was Chris Nicholas, the kicker, laying out a line backer.
For the second time in school history the football team is starting off district 5-0. The last time they had this many wins was 2010.
The school has a bi week this Friday, but will soon take on the Dripping Springs Oct. 12 for the big homecoming game.
