The Top Ten Movies To Watch For Halloween:
1. Silent Hill (2006)
Silent Hill is one of those terrifying new instant-classics that everyone seems to enjoy. While it is a horror film, it is not one of your typical B-rated, low-budgeted films. It’s complete with an intriguing plot full of suspense and mystery that may draw in those, such as myself, that normally find it hard to tolerate scary movies. It has also been recent inspiration for many Halloween costumes for those wanting to get full scaring potential out of the holiday.
2. Donnie Darko (2001)
This is a gripping scare flick that has attracted many fans. Filmed in just barely a month, the story of Donnie Darko has become a cult-classic and a Halloween favorite. It is well remembered for it’s use of a very creepy-looking bunny suit. I highly recommend this for anyone, whether you’re into to scare-flicks or not, you’ll find a liking to it.
3. American Psycho (2000)
Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel published in 1991, this movie is set from the point of view of the killer himself, played by Christian Bale — a normal businessman by day but at night he commits deadly crimes. His murders begin out of frustration with himself and the inability to be proud of his wealthy status. Eventually the two sources of his turmoil blur together, but all attempts to confess are disregarded and laughed-off as a joke. I’d keep a flashlight and couple of friends with you while watching this.
4. The Silence Of The Lambs (1991)
This is yet another classic based off of a book. It’s full of excellent plot twists and frightful scenes. The film portrays two serial killers, “Hannibal Lecter” (played by Anthony Hopkins) and “Buffalo Bill”, as well as a detective (played by Jodie Foster) who is hunting them down. I honestly couldn’t keep my eyes open during this one because of the graphic murder scenes which include a bit of cannibalism.
5. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
You can never go wrong with this Tim Burton favorite. It’s equipped with a spooky art style and wonderful songs. It’s the best for sitting around with the family on an October evening and will definitely get you in the Halloween spirit.
6. It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
This one will take teachers and students back to the good ol’ days of childhood. You can’t forget the Peanuts gang and all of their fun adventures. It’s always good to get in a little time to reminisce during the holiday.
7. Zombieland (2009)
There’s plenty of room for a little comedy with the famous Bill Murray scene and Woody Harrelson’s desperate search for a Twinkie. I’d add this to your film collection if you haven’t already. Not to mention, what’s Halloween without some zombies?
8. When A Stranger Calls (2006)
In this remake of the 1979 film, we follow the story of Jill who babysits two children and plays a haunting game of cat-and-mouse with a potential killer. The plot keeps you interested and elicits a few screams and a handful of jumps throughout.
9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2003)
This is one out of the many remakes of the 1974 film based off of the 1957 murderer, Ed Gein. It has been a continuous classic for any Hallow’s Eve fright-night. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone with a weak stomach given that there is graphic amounts of gore throughout but it’ll certainly give you a few screams.
10. Prom Night (2008)
A perfect movie for high school students to watch, especially the upperclassmen that will be attending prom. This film is more suspenseful than anything though the realism is enough to give anyone the creeps and keep them on the edge of their seat.
