Prom will be April 13 at 8 p.m. to midnight, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Austin.
For juniors and seniors, this year’s prom will be an unforgettable night filled with dancing, food and a few special features. This theme is “Country Nights.” Prom sponsors Michelle Taylor and Meghin Huerta have been busy making sure everything comes together so that the night of prom will run smoothly.
“A struggle I face is trying to get students involved, and there’s a lot of opinions but not a lot of results,” Taylor said. “One thing I’m most excited about is seeing all the kids come together and have a fun and enjoy each other’s company.”
To buy tickets for prom, students can purchase them at any lunch. Also students who plan to bring a date that does not attend Vista Ridge, must go to the AP office and get a visitor pass. Ticket prices are $35 and beginning April 8 will be $40. Students can also purchase tickets at the door.
There will also be a drawing, so those who attend prom are entered to win an iPad.
Putting time into planning an event reflects the outcome.
“The closer we get to prom I spend about four hours daily,” Taylor said. “My favorite part about planning this event is seeing the kids ideas come together. My least favorite part is hearing kids saying they don’t like something, but with a little more time I know we’ll pull it together. I predict that the night of prom will be better than anticipated.”
A few special features are planned to be at prom, such as a bounce house, a throwback coke float bar, a photo flipbook, a s’more station, and great fun and music.
Senior Jordan Horni, junior Sammantha Loomis and senior Heather Cowart are on prom committee with Taylor and Huerta.
“We started working on prom about two months ago and by it being two weeks away, we have meetings every day,” Cowart said. “Judging by the amount of work we put in and the location, we’re planning for about 650 students to attend.”
