HOSA, an organization for future health professionals, recently volunteered at the Great Strides Crystic Fibrosis Walk at Elizabeth Millburn Park.
“HOSA is a group where students interested in being in the medical field can volunteer for organizations, compete in competitions, and have a good time,” freshman Joanna Koshy said. “We have volunteered for the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walk, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk, and the Color Me Rad. I’ve only gone to a few, but it was so fun.”
Koshy volunteered for the Cystic Fibrosis walk, with freshman Nandhini Halderia.
“First we helped set up the food, tables, and signs before the walk began and when it had started we cheered on the people when they walked,” Halderia said. “Cedar Park High School’s HOSA organization was there too.”
HOSA meets after school every Wednesday until 4:45 p.m.
“HOSA is only after school,” Koshy said. “It’s not something you can take during Ranger Time. It’s only once a week, so it’s spaced out, but not too far. I like it on Wednesdays.”
Volunteering is a major part of HOSA. They volunteer at hospitals, races, and wherever there is an opportunity.
“Volunteering is required for most jobs and businesses,” Koshy said. “Colleges look to see if you have volunteering experience.”
Desai said she felt satisfied volunteering for such a cause.
“I felt really excited because we got to cheer people on for such a great cause,” Koshy said. “It’s really noble, and I hope we do more volunteering like that.”
