The Fastest Man Alive
Season One of The Flash Airs on CW
October 28, 2014
Moving faster than the speed of sound, a red and yellow blur speeds through Central City. Struck by a bolt of lightning and drenched in various radiated chemicals, forensic scientist Barry Allen was transformed into the fastest man alive.
The Flash premiered on Oct. 7 on the CW and will come on Tuesday nights at 8/7c.
After witnessing his mother being murdered by a “yellow ball of lightning,” Barry described what he saw to police. But no one believed him, and his father was wrongly convicted for her murder. Becoming obsessed with his mother’s murder, Barry joined the Central City Police Department as a forensic scientist focusing on strange and paranormal cases and looking for any clues to lead him to who really killed his mother to clear his father’s name.
After the Particle Accelerator, a machine designed by S.T.A.R Labs to further all of humanity’s knowledge, malfunctions, it releases unknown forms of radiation across Central City. Barry is stuck by a bolt of lightning and dosed in various chemicals, putting him in a nine-month coma, and when he wakes up, he discovers that he has become the Fastest Man Alive.
Grant Gustin, who plays the Flash /Barry Allen, is a good pick for the role because he has a similar personality to the Barry Allen from the comics. It’s been said that the TV show will follow the story arc of The Flash Rebirth, one of my favorite comics, so I’m looking forward to seeing how their take on the story will play out.
The Flash is written by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns from Arrow. It’s cool because DC is creating a shared universe through the TV shows. The Flash is lighter than Arrow’s dark theme, and unlike in Arrow, we can expect many people with superpowers. Already we have seen Barry Allen appear in Arrow prior to receiving his powers, and Stephen Amell (The Arrow), made an appearance in the Flash’s pilot. We can look forward to more crossovers between the two heroes, and the title of episode 8th Flash episode is “Flash v.s. Arrow”.
The Flash pilot was full of Easter eggs from the DC Universe, but one of my favorites was John Wesley Shipp playing Barry’s dad, Henry Allen. Shipp played The Flash in the 90s Flash TV show, so for the audience, he’s passing the torch to Gustin.
Now that I’ve seen the first three episodes, I’m pretty sure that The Flash is going to be one of my favorite shows. For a long time Flash has been my favorite superhero, and now he finally has a TV show and a chance to shine. I like the casting and the story so far, and I think if you enjoy superhero movies or TV shows such as Arrow or Smallville, you should give this show a shot.
