Waiting to Move: New Science Wing

A few weeks ago, Principal Paul Johnson, reported to the faculty and staff that they would be moving students into the new science wing that was built over the summer through December  in order to accommodate the overgrowing population of incoming students.

“Many science teachers share rooms. Some teachers have to switch to a different room every class period,” science teacher Jane Misfud said. “This is difficult for doing labs, and the students have a hard to finding the teacher since they are never in the same place.”

According to the science teachers, many of them are struggling to educate their students on a day to day bases due to the lack of  required lab tables for classrooms.

“Three to six weeks [until we move in]. We are waiting on desks to arrive,” Misfud said.

Unlike Misfud, science teacher Tony Cacciola doesn’t know when his students will move to the new science wing.

“We still do not know the exact date we will be moving in. We are waiting for some technology issues to be addressed,” Cacciola said. “Many of the new rooms will be the same size as the other science rooms on campus, with movable lab stations.”

While asking around, majority of  the teachers are waiting on either desks, supplies, or the countertops of the labs to be completely set up. Meaning many of the staff and students will be placed into their classrooms at a later date in time. However, the teachers are still just as thrilled with the idea their students will be better equipped for learning.

“I am super excited about the new rooms. The movable lab tables with provide greater flexibility for different types of labs,” Misfud said.
