On January 11th, Disney In Concert came to Austin’s very own Long Performing Arts Center to deliver to an eager audience what they describe as “Magical Music from the Movies”. And magical it was. Four broadway vocalists took to the stage in front of an 86-piece orchestra and performed songs ranging from Disney classics like “Mary Poppins”, “The Jungle Book”, and “Beauty&The Beast”, to the the wildly popular hits like “The Lion King” and “The Little Mermaid” and even modern hits such as “Frozen”. Though every vocalist was ringing with talent, one particular vocalist stood out among the rest. Anthony Apicella owned the stage every time he entered, making the other three vocalists fade into the background. Apicella appropriately performed high energy songs such as I Wanna Be Like You from “The Jungle Book”, Be Our Guest from “Beauty&The Beast”, Zazu’s snarky bits in I Just Can’t Wait To Be King from “The Lion King”, and several songs in the Mary Poppins Medley performed. Apicella lit up the performance center with his energy, strong vocals, and incredible stage presence as he literally bounced around on stage and fully committed to his vocal character and their physical persona. Without doubt, Apicella made the show into something magical, youthful, and fully embodying of the Disney spirit.
