How to Create a Minimalist Wardrobe for College
April 16, 2015
Alright ladies, and of course our fashionable men as well, we all know that narrowing down our wardrobe for college is a daunting task. But no worries, I’ve done the research for you so that I can present to you these simple tasks to creating a minimalist wardrobe for college.
Step 1: Get Rid of Clutter
The first and probably most important thing you need to do is clear out your closet. Take everything, and I mean EVERYTHING out of your closet, drawers, and dresses and get rid of anything you can’t remember wearing within the last 3 months (6 for out of season clothes) or anything that simply does not fit you anymore. Make sure you then donate or consign those clothes, accessories, etc.
Step 2: Make A List
Now that you have cleaned out, make a list about what you’ll really NEED in college. Which doesn’t mean frilly fru fru dresses and blouses you think you’ll wear, because you won’t. You will be living in jeans, sweats, running shorts and t-shirts. Ad for those of you addicted to heels and dresses, limit yourself to two pairs of heels and 3 dresses for parties and going out. Otherwise, stick with the casual items.
Step 3: 100 Hangers
Now, 100 hangers seems like quite a bit, but once you hang up your pants, tops, dresses, sweaters, jackets, etc. you’ll find it’s not as much as you think. It really only allots for the basics and a few fancy items. Exclude pjs, sweats, and unmentionables from your hangers, you can have 1 drawer for those.
Step 4: Evaluate
Evaluate where you are, are you exceeding your hanger limit? If so, get rid of more. Are you under your hanger limit? You could either stay where you are or go out and buy some more items.
Step 5: PACK UP!!!
