Already tickets are going on sale for Star Wars: Episode VII –  The Force Awakens coming out Dec 17. The movie has generated $6.5 million in presales in the U.S. and Canada after only a day of the tickets being available for purchase. Fandango said the film sold eight times as many tickets on the first day of release than the previous record holder, The Hunger Games, selling more than 200,000 tickets. When the tickets went on sale, Alamo Drafthouse, Movietickets.com and Fandango’s websites all went down because of all of the activity. Also the new trailer has pulled in around 30 million views after being out for a day, and the movie is estimated to make around $2 billion globally. The trailer premiered during the ESPN football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.

“The first time I saw the new Star Wars trailer, I got chills,” senior Sahil Mulji said.  “I already bought my tickets and can’t wait to go and see it opening night.”

After The Return of the Jedi, Star Wars fans wanted to know more about  the aftermath of the original trilogy. This lead to the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The SWEU is composed of hundreds of books and comics expanding the universe outside of the 3 original movies. Unfortunately all of these are being pushed aside for the new movies to fill in some of the missing gaps after the original trilogy. This is so the new films are not having to restrict their storyline to follow the books and comics. Also, the new video game Star Wars: Battlefront is being released Nov 17. This video game will be following Battlefront (2004) and Battlefront 2 (2005), bringing back the popular series and giving fans another opportunity to explore the Star Wars universe.

“The new movie is definitely going to be the best movie of the year,” Mulji said. “It is going to become an instant classic.”
