COOL week Q&A
February 18, 2016
Senior Madelyn Schweppe
Where did you go for COOL week?
“I went to Brazos Valley Equine Hospital in Salado, TX.”
How many days?
“I went there for an entire week.”
What was your job?
“I just assisted the vets in anyway I could. I held horses, helped give sedatives and vaccines. I got to sit in during surgeries and actually got to assist in one of the surgeries getting to hand breathe one of the horses who had stopped breathing.”
Why did you pick this place/job?
“I picked this place because the clinic has a good mix of sports medicine and surgeries. They have some of the best vets in the state of Texas so it was a really good opportunity to learn.”
Did this help you in what you want to do after high school? How?
“Yes it did. I really want to be an equine vet in the future. Doing COOL week really pushed me to work hard the rest of the school year and in college.”
What was your best or worst moment?
“I honestly loved everything about it. I learned so much from everyone that worked there. I learned how to run and operate a successful clinic. I loved that I actually got to help with the treatments and surgeries. I loved interacting with the clients and horses. I also got to play with newborn baby foals all week!”
