Following the events taken place in 2013’s Man of Steel, Batman V Superman : Dawn of Justice is the second installment into the DC Extended Universe released on March 25. Along with Man of Steel, this movie was directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and is the first live-action movie to feature both Batman and Superman, as well as an appearance from Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg.

Batman V Superman takes place 18 months after the events in Man of Steel, where Batman, or Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), witnessed first-hand the catastrophic damage that Superman (Henry Cavill) caused while battling General Zod (Michael Shannon) and decides to come out of retirement to put a stop to him. Batman believes that if Superman’s actions are left unchecked, he could be a potential threat to the entire human race. Meanwhile Superman, or Clark Kent, a journalist working for the Daily Planet, sees Batman as a dangerous vigilante and means to expose him. The two heroes begin their epic showdown while Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) creates plans to stop the Man of Steel himself.

Batman V Superman was first announced at 2013 San Diego Comic Con after Man of Steel was released, and was said by the director that it would draw inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns comic by Frank Miller. It was also stated that Snyder’s portrayal of Batman would be different from Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy in that he would be more like the comic version instead of a more realistic version, serving as a reboot for the character.

Though many reviews are bashing this movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys superhero movies. The film brought in $416 million worldwide and broke the box office records for most money brought in by a DC film, the biggest March release ever, and the seventh biggest movie opening weekend in history. It had great action, especially the encounter between Batman and Superman, and I thought most of the actors were well casted and portrayed their characters accurately. Mostly I enjoyed seeing Batman and Superman on the movie theater screen together for the first time either fighting with or against one another, and that reason alone makes this movie is worth seeing.
