2016 Presidential Debate Q&A

Seejin Kim, Reporter

The first presidential debate was on September 26th and the latest was on October 19th, only 27 days from the Election day. These are some of the students who have watched the first 2016 presidential election and have given their opinions about it.

Curtis Harrison (12)

Q. Did you watch the Presidential election debate on Sept. 26th? What are your thoughts about it?

A. Yes and to be honest, I think it was embarrassing. The debate was a series of ridiculous moments, Donald trump did not respect Hillary Clinton’s opinions at all, and never sought to listen to her fully. But, Clinton has her disadvantages, too. I think we will have America’s worst leaders, regardless whether Clinton or Trump will win.

Q. Can you explain what happened during the debate? Any prominent moments that stood out for you?

A. It frustrated me how Trump kept on interrupted Hillary. While Hillary was saying some sense out of her words, Trump just kept on ranting about how proud and right his words were.

Q. Have you ever watched other presidential debates? If you have, how was this one different from the previous ones?

A. Usually all the candidates were competent and chose their words with care, but this time, I felt that none of them were serious about what they were talking about. Half of the time, Trump was bragging pridefully while Hilary talked nonsense about her viewpoints.

Q. Who were you originally supporting before the debate? Did you change your mind afterwards?

A. I was supporting Hillary and I still am

Q. After this debate, how do you think the other debates held in the future will turn out to be?

A. Probably very similar

Corrin Alanis (12)

Q. Have you seen the Presidential election debate? What are your thoughts about it?

A. I’d say that both candidates need to work on their skills to not interrupt each other. I feel like they didn’t talk about actual information, such as safety issues or education, but rather targeted each other on personal demands.

Q. Can you explain what happened during the debate? Any prominent moments that stood out for you?

A. Both of them tried to pin each other down. Hillary says Trump is unworthy of becoming president because he had once called women “pigs” while Trump accused Hillary of being a liar. It was very unorganised overall.

Q. Have you ever watched other presidential elections? If you have, how was this one different from previous ones?

A. This debate had more personal attacks toward each other but the other debates focused more on important information

Q. Who were you originally supporting before the debate? Did you change your mind afterwards?

A. I don’t want to say that I support anyone because I feel like both of them have bad intentions

Q. After this debate, how do think the debates held in the future will turn out to be?

A. I think they will be funny but more in control than this one. I plan on watching the vice president election coming up.

Audrey Gibson (12)

Q. Have you seen the presidential election debate? What are your thoughts about it?

A. I feel like Trump avoided talking about the topic. Rather than that, he was attacking Hillary about personal beliefs and interrupting her for ridiculous reasons.

Q. Can you explain what happened during the debate? Any prominent moments?

A. Trump said that it was smart of him to avoid taxes. I mean, I support that but i don’t think it’s reasonable to not tax people who are rich vs the poor.

Q. Have you watched other presidential debates?

A. I don’t quite remember but the atmosphere was quite different. Much more sophisticated and in control than this one.

Q. Who did you support before this debate? Did you change your mind afterwards?

A. I was originally supporting Hillary and through this debate, I think my support for her only became stronger.

Q. How do you future debates will be after this one?

A. From now on, the future candidates would be more detailed on their information and show who they really are inside. Hopefully, it would be more knowledgeable than this scattered debate.
