With the winter season approaching, “Abominable” is the perfect movie to watch with family and friends.  The 97 minute film by DreamWorks and Universal had the biggest opening of any original animation this year, collecting $20.9 million in the box office for its debut. Many people seem to enjoy this animation, having a 95 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie follows three characters, Yi, voiced by Chloe Bennet, Peng, voiced by Albert Tsai and Jin, voiced by Tenzing Norgay Trainor. They embark on an epic journey to Mt. Everest when Yi discovers a Yeti on her roof and decides to help get him home. The movie keeps viewers on their feet as the three characters are trailed by an eager zoologist and a financer who are trying to hunt the Yeti for their own greed. 

Abominable starts out full of tension as the yeti tries to get away from the antagonists, which grabs your attention as action breaks out. With new plot twists and details, the journey pulls viewers into the happenings of the movie. Just when the ending is about to hit, a new event keeps the plot going, while having a nice flow in the transitions. 

In addition to a nice, engaging plot, children are able to learn, as major character development is portrayed throughout the film. From a self-centered and selfish person, Jin becomes a caring and loving person through each step of the journey. Through this, viewers are able to learn lessons about what true friendship and compassion means, which can be helpful to the mindset of learning children. 

Despite the lengthy plot, some factors of the movie are predictable, which leaves little room for surprise. Besides the minor predictability, the PG animation does not disappoint, and is enjoyable for any occasion.
