Ceramics students create vases for the LEEF banquet

This week in the Ceramics 3/AP Portfolio class, students were working on their LEEF (Leander ISD Educational Excellence Foundation) vase project. These pieces went up for auction at an annual banquet on Saturday, and the proceeds go back into the LEEF and art program.

Senior Maryn Hadden worked on the LEEF vase project, and she described her piece having “nature-like waves of the ocean.”

The class is also working on the “Lucky Three-legged Pig” project. It’s done every year for the ceramics classes because it teaches students about the Pomaire culture. This culture believes that when you make a Chanchitos, (Lucky Three-Legged pig) it will bring loved ones happiness.  The basic technique, called “hollowing,” ensures that the pigs will make it through the firing process, and it is traditionally supposed to bring the students good luck as well.
