Cheer Heads to Fort Worth to compete in UIL on Jan. 17

Shelby Cothren, Reporter

The cheer team left at noon today for their UIL competition in Fort Worth tomorrow. Approximately 40 teams from across the state will participate. The team will compete in the co-ed division with their crowd leading, fight song and band dance. They practiced after school every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 4-6 for this specific competition.

“I would say the worst part of preparing for UIL was our five-hour practice in the summer where we learned the basic outline of our routine, but on top of that it was hard having to constantly learn the changes that were made throughout working on the routine,” junior Sylvia Brooks said. “My favorite part of the preparation though was getting to see and practice with my teammates every day after school, and to be able to know that we’ve given it our all once competition day comes around.”
