Each year, seniors from Vista celebrate an important milestone in their athletic and academic careers; signing to continue these careers at the collegiate level. For all of these athletes, this day reflects years of hard work and dedication, allowing them to reach their goals of playing at a high level.
Whether it be track, soccer, swimming, basketball, baseball, or other sports, these athletes have taken a big step towards a bright future with the support of parents, coaches, and teammates. These athletes help create a legacy for the school as well as inspire younger athletes to follow in their footsteps.
“Signing for my college was pretty important because it was an important step toward my future,” senior Hannah Pecze said. “I’m glad that I will be able to continue swimming in college.”
For Pecze, signing to continue swimming at the University of Pennsylvania is not just a personal victory but the result of years of dedication.
“For me, I do like three practices in the morning between Monday and Friday and then every night from Monday to Friday,” Pecze said. “So like eight practices on weekdays, so three in the mornings and five in the evenings.”
Even though swimming requires a lot of dedication, excessive training, and an enormous amount of time, she still wants to continue the hard work in the future.
“I was inspired by all of the coaches I have, and also my friends,” senior Julia Ramsey said. “When you grow up playing a sport your whole life, it really helps to have a strong community around you.”
Soccer player Ramsey shared her excitement about competing at the next level with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. For Ramsey, the signing day represents athletic success and the influence of others who have guided her journey.
“College signing is important to me because not only am I signing for academics,” Ramsey said, “but I also get to pursue a career in my athletics.”
As for senior Kianna Wormley, her dreams have led her to the big decision of signing to continue her athletic career at the University of California Irvine.
“I mean, I just wanna follow my dream,” Wormley said. “I picked up basketball, so I just wanna, you know, continue to play.”
Transitioning to college sports can be nerve-wracking, but these seniors are ready for the challenge. Despite the challenges ahead, these athletes encourage others to push through obstacles and stay passionate about their goals.
“I’m nervous that I’m gonna be down there by myself,” Wormley said. “But I’m most happy about being in California. There’s a lot to do, and I just wanna see where it takes me.”
As these seniors prepare for the next step in their athletic and academic journeys, they leave behind a legacy as rangers. Their hard work, dedication, and perseverance serve as an inspiration to the next generation of student-athletes.
“Just stick with it,” Ramsey said. “Even if you think you’re not having fun because everybody goes through rough patches.”
