On January 24-26, the Vista Ridge cheer team had the opportunity to take on the NCA nationals cheer competition. After last year’s results, the team was determined to turn things around and dominate this year’s competition.
After months of hard work and preparation, the team traveled to Dallas ready to compete. The team competed in the Game Day Small Division and secured 7th place, a great turnaround from not even making the top 20 at last year’s competition. This improvement shows the team’s dedication to one another and their routine.

“Since we got our set in October, the girls have really bought into it,” Coach Cassens said. “They made the set what it was and put in all the work, so it was a good experience from October to now.”
This dedication paid off when the team jumped three places in the rankings on the second day of competition.
“We went into day two in tenth place and improved our score by four points and then moved up three places,” Cassens said. “So that was huge for us and a good accomplishment.”
Along with the national competition, the cheer team competed in the UIL State competition, placing 33rd in the highly competitive 6A D2 division. Throughout the back-to-back competitions, the team stayed confident in themselves and each other, while working hard to produce great results.

“The team was really confident going into Nationals,” Cassens said. “We knew we had a lot better of a chance competing in our division at nationals, and then coming out of it, everyone’s really proud with the standings and the final routine.”
Looking back on their season, the cheer team is incredibly proud of their improvement and growth. Their top-10 result at Nationals is proof of how far the team has come and sets the stage for many amazing years to come. With this momentum, Cassens and her girls are excited to continue to grow over the years and keep pushing themselves to be the best of the best.
