The Medicine Game, also known as Lacrosse, is a sport that has been growing in popularity. Our very own school has a men’s lacrosse team, Rangers Lacrosse. This consists of guys from 9 through 12 grade from Vista Ridge and Cedar Park High School. It is a club, since lacrosse is not considered to be a UIL sport.
Being in a club sport means having to pay fees to be able to afford the coaches salary, field rentals, uniforms, and many more. It is progressing as a program, hopefully becoming a UIL sport in the future.
“I’ve been playing lacrosse since spring of my freshman year and my old school lacrosse was a sanctioned sport,” senior Luke Swilley said. “Here it’s a club sport so there’s a lot more stress on the program. I think if it was free it would increase participation in the sport.”
Some people may not know that the team works hard throughout the fall season to prepare for their spring season. Fall ball consists of practices starting from August to December, working hard to achieve wins when they start their season.

“My goal for this season is to win all the games, I think the goal in general is to just get better as a team,” senior Anthony Selsky said. “It definitely does not help because its not free so people don’t play, if it was free and things were provided then more people would play.”
With the boys lacrosse team consisting of guys from Vista Ridge and Cedar Park, there is also a girls team with student athletes from all across the Leander ISD school district. After losing the State Semi-Final game by 2 points last year, they are hoping to go back to the State Championship and take home a win.
“I am hoping to lock in at practices so we can go back to state this year,” freshman Charlotte Martindale said. “I feel like doing the fall season practices was very helpful in preparing for high school games. I’m just excited to play with my friends on the team since I got to make a lot of them.”
As the season for both teams starts at the end of January, you can catch some of their upcoming games. Rangers Lacrosse has their first game Feb 23 against Frisco at the Vista Ranger Stadium. Cedar Park Girls Lacrosse starts their season Jan 30 against Austin at Town and Country.
