Our very own Vista Ridge varsity boys soccer team has made history for how well they’ve done so far in the Texas 6A state playoffs!
The team has made it to the third of seven rounds, and as long as they keep winning they will have the opportunity to potentially make it to the state game.
“We’ve already made Vista Ridge history,” senior striker J Mossholder said. “In terms of being the first Vista team to make it to round three out of any sport, and that’s what we’ve done.”
Sports in Texas and at Vista are always a big deal. However, soccer isn’t always talked about or looked at, until this year. The players are the first ever at Vista to ever make it this far in playoffs, and they have a good chance of making it even farther. They can point their success this year directly to new players, and how hard they have worked.

“Last season we made it to the second round of the playoffs,” varsity soccer coach Philip Reus said. “This year we won district and are playing in the 3rd round. We returned the majority of our starters from last season and plugged in the holes left by our graduating seniors with talented players. We have matured as a team by building on the success of last season. During the off season, we focused on things that we were lacking last season and improved upon our strengths.”
The bond that teams have together are so important for success, almost as important as natural talent or practice. Fortunately for our team, they have a strong bond that has led them to this level of success.

“The great thing about our team is that we are all pretty good friends and we all respect each other,” senior goalkeeper Abhijay Thunga said. “That builds a level of trust and understanding for each other on the field. I feel really good about the rest of our season.”
The Ranger soccer team will have their third-round playoff game TONIGHT at 7:30 vs Economedes High School in Floresville, so come out and support!
“I’m feeling pretty good going into round three,” Mossholder said. “We’re the clear favorites to win, and we just need to keep our heads on straight go out and play our game.”
