A New Beginning

The varsity baseball team hasn’t had much luck the past two seasons, going 9-17-1 last year and then going 6-15 the year before. Making it all the way to the state tournament in the 07-08 season, they’re hoping this year to have the same type of success – with new coach, Jason Bourgeois.

“He’s awesome, he’s all baseball, his mind isn’t anywhere else’s,” sophomore Dylan Bein said.

However, it’s not going to be an easy road, having to face Dripping Springs, Lake Travis and Cedar Park, which all went to the playoffs last year.

“The team I want to beat this year the most is Cedar Park, because that’s our biggest rival,” senior Adam Ortega said.

The team already had their first tough game of the season playing Georgetown. They went two extra innings and won 8-7.

“It was a great way to start off the season. It got us motivated,” junior Colby Wilson said.

The senior class hasn’t had much senior leadership in previous years, so they are really striving to have it this year.

“I think having leadership is important, it shows the younger players how to become a leader when they’re in my position,” Ortega said.
